Quick Start Guide

Get your Shopify store set up with RateTell and start showing estimated landed costs at checkout in under 30 minutes.

Step 1: Connect Your Shopify Store

  1. Visit RateTell and sign up
  2. After sign in, you'll be prompted to connect your Shopify store
  3. Enter your store's .myshopify.com domain and click Connect Store
  4. You'll be redirected to Shopify to authorize the app
  5. Approve the 14-day free trial on Shopify's billing confirmation page
  6. After authorization, you'll return to RateTell and your products will begin syncing

See Account Setup for detailed instructions.

Step 2: Review Your Products

  1. Go to Products in the sidebar
  2. Verify your products have synced from Shopify
  3. Check that product data is accurate — this is critical for good HS classifications:
    • Product titles should be descriptive (e.g., "Women's Cotton T-Shirt", not "New Drop!!!")
    • Product types should be set (e.g., "Clothing", "Electronics")
    • Tags should be relevant to the product material and use
  4. Edit dimensions (weight, length, width, height) for any products missing this data

See Product Setup for best practices.

Step 3: Classify Your Products

  1. Select the products you want to classify (check the checkboxes)
  2. Click the Classify button in the floating toolbar
  3. Select your target destination countries
  4. Click Start Classification — AI will analyze each product and suggest HS codes
  5. Go to Classifications in the sidebar to review results

See HS Classification for the complete workflow.

Step 4: Review and Approve Classifications

  1. In the Classifications page, filter by Needs Review status
  2. Click any row to open the detail drawer
  3. Review the AI-suggested HS code, alternatives, and reasoning
  4. Approve the correct code by clicking Approve
  5. For any incorrect suggestions, enter the correct HS code manually

Step 5: Enable Rates at Checkout

  1. Go to Configuration in the sidebar
  2. Enable DDP to include duty and tax estimates at checkout
  3. Choose your rate source: carrier rates, custom flat rates, or both
  4. Connect at least one carrier in Carriers (UPS, FedEx, or DHL)
  5. Add RateTell to your Shopify shipping zones so rates appear at checkout — see Account Setup for instructions

See Carrier Rates for detailed carrier setup.

Step 6: You're Live

Once your products are classified and shipping is configured, RateTell automatically provides estimated landed costs at your Shopify checkout. Monitor your international orders from the Dashboard.
