Get API credentials from carriers to enable live shipping rates
Carrier Credentials
To display live shipping rates from carriers like UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, and Canada Post, you need to obtain API credentials from each carrier.
Why You Need Credentials
API credentials allow RateTell to:
- Fetch real-time shipping rates
- Calculate accurate delivery times
- Display available service levels
- Provide rate shopping across carriers
Available Carriers
Select a carrier below to learn how to get credentials:
UPS
Get Access Key, User ID, and Password from UPS Developer Portal.
FedEx
Obtain Client ID, Client Secret, and Meter Number from FedEx Developer Center.
USPS
Register for Web Tools and get your User ID (includes production approval process).
DHL Express
Get API Key and Secret from DHL Developer Portal.
Canada Post
Obtain API Key, Customer Number, and Contract ID from Canada Post.
Setup & Security
General Process: Create developer account with carrier → Request API access → Receive credentials → Add to RateTell (Settings → Carriers) → Test connection.
Security: All credentials are encrypted at rest, transmitted via HTTPS, never exposed in logs. Rotate keys every 90 days and use test credentials during development.
Testing Connections
After entering credentials:
- Click Test Connection button
- RateTell makes a sample API call
- See success message or error details
- Fix any issues before saving
